Punjab Rugby Team Wins Azadi Cup Rugby Tournament 2025 at Fort Abbas

Fort Abbas, August 14, 2025 – The Azadi Cup Rugby Tournament 2025, organized by the Punjab Rugby Association, concluded successfully at the Wazeeri Rugby Stadium, Fort Abbas, under floodlights on the evening of Pakistan’s Independence Day.
The tournament brought together four competitive teams – Punjab Rugby Team, Desertcamels RFC, Government Graduate College Fort Abbas, and Etehad RFC – in a display of high-quality rugby and sportsmanship.
In the final, the Punjab Rugby Team secured victory over Desertcamels RFC with a scoreline of 17–12. The outstanding performances were recognized with awards: Muhammad Anas (Punjab) was declared Man of the Tournament for scoring three tries, while Manzoor (Punjab) was named Man of the Match.
The match was officiated by Referee Mr. Abdul Muqeet Atar, assisted by Mr. Waqar and Mr. Faheem.
The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Hamza Raouf (Lawyer, Lahore) and Principal Mr. Majid Ali Majid (Government Graduate College Fort Abbas) as chief guests, who presented trophies and awards to the winners and participants.
Tournament Martial Prof. Muzammil Wazeeri, Vice President of both the Pakistan Rugby Union and the Punjab Rugby Association, expressed gratitude to the teams, officials, and local community. He emphasized the importance of such events in fostering rugby culture in Pakistan and providing opportunities for emerging players to showcase their talent.
The tournament attracted a large audience from Fort Abbas, creating a vibrant and patriotic atmosphere on the eve of Independence Day. The community praised the organization of the event, the level of competition, and the rare opportunity to witness professional rugby in their hometown.
